Sullivan officials consider shifting county jail inmates to house arrest

BLOUNTVILLE — Lindsay Lohan. Roman Polanski. Martha Stewart. Michael Vick. Paris Hilton. Your next-door neighbor in Sullivan County.

House arrest might not be just for celebrities anymore. If some county officials have their way, it might just be coming to a home near you.

In a bid to save money, Sullivan County officials are considering shifting as many prisoners as possible from the county jail to their own homes.

Those sent to serve their sentences at home would be tracked by electronic monitoring bracelets attached around their ankles, Sullivan County Sheriff Wayne Anderson said when talking to county commissioners earlier this week.
