Roberto De La Cruz hit a three-run homer and the Johnson City Cardinals used some runs to defeat the Burlington Royals 5-3 on Monday night at Burlington Athletic Stadium.
De La Cruz’s homer broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning, putting Johnson City up 4-1. Neal Pritchard hit an RBI single in the sixth and Tyler Rahmatulla scored on a fielder’s choice in the eighth.
Matthew Williams had four hits and Gary Apelian had two for the Cards. Both Williams and Apelian doubled.
The win was the third in the last seven for Johnson City, which holds a five-game lead over the Elizabethton Twins in the Appalachian League West Division.
