CHATTANOOGA (AP) — Four former police officers at Erlanger Health System have filed complaints with the state, saying the Chattanooga hospital wouldn't pay them when they worked during lunch periods.
A complaint filed with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development by Jerry Lawrence states Erlanger deducted a 30-minute lunch period, whether officers took the time or not, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/qyjb4r ). Department spokesman Jeff Hentchel said the former officers' claims are under investigation and the state will immediately begin gathering documents from Erlanger.
Responding by e-mail to the newspaper, hospital spokeswoman Pat Charles stated a complaint to Erlanger by one of the former guards is being reviewed. The hospital plans to respond to the state agency after investigating the claim.
