August 17th, 2011 10:57 pm by Rain Smith

Police have arrested a shoplifting suspect accused of driving an SUV onto a Kingsport fitness trail to elude a pursuing officer, nearly striking a pedestrian in the process.

According to Kingsport police records the incident occurred two weeks ago. The suspect allegedly bailed from the vehicle after driving approximately 300 yards on the Greenbelt — leaving his identification and girlfriend behind for police. He was reportedly located during a Tuesday traffic stop.

Robert A. Walker, 32, of 1209 Ridgecrest Ave., Kingsport, is charged with shoplifting, reckless endangerment, evading arrest and driving left of center. According to an incident report at the Kingsport Police Department, his arrest stems from an Aug. 4 incident at K-Mart, 1805 East Stone Drive.
