A man was charged with embezzling from a city business Wednesday, police said in a news release.
Nathan D. Hawkins, 27, 343 Glasgow Lane, Blountville, was arrested after an investigation into a report of merchandise taken from Sam’s Club, 3060 Franklin Terrace Drive, where he was employed.
Police said Hawkins had failed to render full payment on a purchase of four new tires, which he had placed on his vehicle. Hawkins reportedly only paid $86.90 on a $1,124.28 transaction.
Police said Hawkins provided staff with a statement indicating the process was completed using a pro-rate formula.
Hawkins was being held in the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of $5,000 bond pending an appearance in Sessions Court today at 9 a.m.
