Five local hospitals have received recognition from the American Heart Association for excellence in heart care through a series of quality improvement programs. Indian Path Medical Center, Johnson City Medical Center and Sycamore Shoals Hospital received Get With the Guidelines Gold Awards; and Bristol Regional Medical Center, Holston Valley Medical Center and Johnson City Medical Center received Mission Lifeline Bronze awards.
Get With the Guidelines is a program that helps ensure consistent application of the most recent American Heart Association/American Stroke Association scientific guidelines for patient treatment. The program includes in-hospital modules for heart failure, stroke and resuscitation as well as a program for outpatient practices. Hospitals can achieve recognition at the gold, silver and bronze levels.
Mission Lifeline is a national, community-based initiative to improve systems of care for patients suffering a type of heart attack known as ST-elevation myocardial infarction. The program focuses on streamlining and coordinating processes to speed the delivery of appropriate treatment, with a goal of closing the gaps that separate STEMI patients from a timely access to appropriate treatments.
