Dr. Cary Meyers, medical director of the Wellmont CVA Heart Institute’s Vein Care Center, recently became board-certified in phlebology, the study of the veins. Meyers is one of only eight physicians in Tennessee with this certification from the American Board of Phlebology. A cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon, he is already board-certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery. Meyers performs endovenous laser treatment procedures at The Vein Care Center, which is located at the heart institute’s office at 316 Marketplace Blvd., Suite 20.
Meyers graduated from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He has extensive post-graduate training, including general and cardiothoracic surgery at Duke University Medical Center.
He has served as a clinical assistant professor of surgery at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University since 2008. He also was an assistant professor of surgery at Uniformed Services University of the Health Science from 1997 until 2005. He has served as an attending trauma surgeon at Holston Valley Medical Center since 2006. He has been a member of Wellmont Health System’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee since 2009.
He was named a Healthcare Hero by The Business Journal of Tri-Cities Tennessee/Virginia in 2006. In addition to his medical degree, Meyers has a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Chicago.
