Kyle Hald had a dominant start on the mound, and Johnson City won for the seventh time in eight games.
The Cardinals’ 4-1 victory over Bristol kept them six games ahead of Elizabethton in the West Division of the Appalachian League.
Johnson City is 34-16 on the season.
Hald (5-0) smoked the White Sox for nine strikeouts in six innings of work. He allowed just two hits, one run and one walk.
For the season, Hald has an ERA of 2.38 and has racked up 51 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings of work.
Billbrough finished up for his fifth save of the season. He worked 1 2/3 innings and didn’t allow a baserunner.
At the plate, Matt Williams led the charge. He went 3 for 4 and scored two runs.
The Cardinals broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning. Williams raked a double to right field, and later scored when a pickoff attempt turned into a two-base error.
David Washington provided the insurance run later in the inning with an RBI double.
Jonathan Keener added two hits for the Cardinals, who travel to play Elizabethton today.
