Rescuers reach girl, 11, 70 feet up tree in East Tennessee

August 11th, 2011 4:10 pm by Don Jacobs

KNOXVILLE — Emergency personnel today rescued an 11-year-old Halls girl who was stuck for two hours about 70 feet high in a tree.

Authorities were alerted about 11:15 a.m. of the girl's dilemma at 3550 Rothmoor Drive, said Knox County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Martha Dooley.

Dooley said the girl and other children were climbing a tree they regularly scale in the trailer park when the girl got too high. One of the children alerted an adult of the girl's plight and emergency crews from the KCSO, Knoxville Utilities Board, Rural/Metro Fire Department and the Knoxville Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad converged on the scene.

"Apparently she got up too far and got scared," Dooley said. "She was way up at the top of the tree."
