Resolution sought in case of Kingsport toddler's beating death

August 9th, 2011 12:22 am by Kacie Breeding

A Kingsport woman charged with murder and child neglect in connection with the 2005 beating death of her toddler son may resolve her case without a trial.

Heather Collins, 24, is charged with second-degree murder and aggravated child neglect in Sullivan County Circuit Court. The charges stem from the 2005 beating death of her 2-year-old boy. She was originally set for trial earlier this year, but that was put off indefinitely due to a switch in who would prosecute the case.

Now it appears she may avoid trial altogether, as her attorney says he and the Hawkins County prosecutor recently assigned to the case may reach an agreed resolution by September.
