Third person pleads guilty in Carter child neglect case

August 2nd, 2011 9:22 am by Staff Report

ELIZABETHTON — A third person has entered a guilty plea in a child neglect case in which four adults were arrested on May 5.
April Brummitt Munday, 31, plead guilty in Sessions Court on Monday to one count of attempted solicitation of child neglect. She was fined $25, ordered to attend parenting classes and placed on a year’s probation.
The charge stems from an investigation conducted by the Elizabethton Police Department following an attempt to serve an arrest warrant on drug charges at 608 Locust St., Lot 21 shortly after midnight on May 5.
Officers found five boys between the ages of 2 and 7 who were sleeping on floor mats and a couch in the residence which was heavily infested with roaches. Sgt. Tonya Range described the conditions as “filthy, nasty, deplorable.”
Munday’s husband, Scott A. Munday, 45, and another woman, Tina Michelle Bray, 25, had previously plead guilty and received similar sentences. The man the officers had originally come to arrest, George Darrell Bray St., 59, was bound over to a Carter County Grand Jury on June 7.
