Beating the heat

July 20th, 2011 11:16 pm by Staff Reports

Turn on the air conditioner in this heat wave and you expect to get refreshingly cool air.
If your house should catch fire, you expect the firefighters to have a functioning hydrant available to provide water to put out the fire.
To make sure those services and a whole lot of others still function, maintenance workers keep busy throughout the city on any given day.
This week the workers are having to battle some of the hottest heat of the summer.
Today’s high is expected to be around 92, according to the National Weather Service, and the heat index may be close to 100.
The forecast for the next few days doesn’t look much cooler, with the highs predicted to be around 90 or above through Sunday
