Officer to compete in NYC benefit

A Knoxville police officer who once worked for the Johnson City Police Department will compete in the 2011 World Police & Fire Games in New York City next month and hopes to raise money for a good cause.
Officer Sam Hammett formed a nonprofit orgainzation, called Team Hammett, for the event and hopes to raise donations to fund his trip to the competition and will donate any amount over his expenses to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children. The team is comprised of law enforcement officers from across the state, according to Hammett.
