Police chase, near head-on collision lead to Jonesborough man's arrest

July 18th, 2011 11:38 am by Staff Report

A man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase, police said in a news release.
Daniel T. Hawkins, 21, 159 Debbie Circle, Jonesborough, was charged with driving on a revoked license, felony evading arrest and felony reckless endangerment.
Hawkins was seen traveling on Austin Springs Road at 50 mph in a 30-mph zone, police said. After police signaled for Hawkins to stop, he reportedly sped up and passed two vehicles in a no passing zone, coming “dangerously close to hitting a vehicle head-on that was traveling in the opposite direction,” the release said.
Police said Hawkins continued to flee at high speed, at which point the officer lost sight of him.
After searching the surrounding area, police found Hawkins and took him to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was held in lieu of $21,000 bond.
Hawkins was scheduled to appear in Sessions Court on today at 1:30 p.m.
