Widow of man shot by Oak Ridge police files suit

July 15th, 2011 8:58 am by Jamie Satterfield

The wife of a man shot to death by Oak Ridge police claims in a lawsuit filed Thursday that the shooting was unprovoked.
Attorney Michael Ritter filed in Anderson County Circuit Court a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of Patricia Harris, widow of Rodney Eugene Harris, against Oak Ridge officials and officers over the July 2010 death of Rodney Harris.
It seeks both compensatory and punitive damages, although no amount is listed.
Officers fired 25 shots at Harris outside his Hillside Road home, a dozen of which struck the 48-year-old, who later died at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
