Bystander rescues boy from Doe River

July 11th, 2011 10:32 pm by Staff Reports

ELIZABETHTON —A boy who apparently suffered a seizure while swimming in the Doe River near the Covered Bridge was rescued by a bystander Sunday afternoon.
Officer James Deese of the Elizabethton Police Department said Anthony Ford was able to pull the unidentified juvenile out of the water.
Deese said that when he arrived at 6:19 p.m., the boy had been carried out of the water and had been turned onto his side. Water began coming out of his mouth, then he began to breathe again and he opened his eyes.
Deese said the boy was disoriented but appeared to not be in any pain. The Carter County Rescue Squad arrived and transported the boy to the Johnson City Medical Center for observation.
