Heat warnings posted in Tenn., highs in 90s

NASHVILLE (AP) — Temperatures near 100 are forecast in parts of Tennessee and forecasters have issued heat warnings.

Even in East Tennessee, where no warnings were yet posted on Monday morning, the National Weather Service was forecasting very warm weather.

An excessive heat warning was posted for all of West Tennessee and the northwestern corner of Middle Tennessee. The expected high temperature in Memphis on Monday afternoon is 101 degrees. Heat indexes are expected to soar to around 110 degrees during the afternoon in the Delta region.

In most of Middle Tennessee, a heat advisory was posted with an expected high of 98 degrees in Nashville and heat indexes up to 105 degrees. The plateau will be slightly cooler.

Highs in the mid-90s are anticipated for Chattanooga, Knoxville and the Tri-Cities.
