Johnson City man killed in State of Franklin crash

July 11th, 2011 7:32 am by Staff Report

A Johnson City man was killed Sunday night when his sport utility vehicle crashed after going the wrong way on West State of Franklin Road, Johnson City police said in a news release.
Shawn Dugger, 37, 112 Blakemore Circle, died after his 1998 Dodge Durango crashed into an embankment near South Greenwood Drive about 9:30 p.m., police said.
Dugger was traveling east on State of Franklin in the westbound lane and crossed a concrete median barrier in an apparent attempt to get back into the eastbound lanes. The SUV left the right side of the road and went up an embankment. At the top of the embankment, it went airborne and struck another embankment before rolling over and coming to rest on South Greenwood.
Police said speed likely was a factor in the crash. The Johnson City Police Department's Traffic Homicide Team was continuing the investigation.
