Bailey Burkes delivered at the plate and on the mound, leading the Johnson City American Blue 9-10 year-olds to a 17-4 win over JC National and the District 5 championship on Monday at Lions Field. The win puts JC American in the 9-10 state tournament, which starts July 16 in Dandridge.
Burkes went 4-for-4 with a double at the plate, and baffled JC National by striking out 12 batters. He allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks over six innings.
JC American had 21 hits, including three extra base hits. A six-run sixth inning gave JC American the lead for good. Jonah Miller, Kolten Keller and Andrew Miller all hit RBI singles in the sixth.
Burkes, Keller, Jonah Miller, Andrew Miller, David Bryant, Zack Copenhaver and Tommy Kolb all had hits for JC American.
