Cards edge Bluefield for 12th win

The Johnson City Cardinals improved their Appalachian League-leading record to 12-3 on Tuesday night with a 7-6 win over the Bluefield Orioles.
Tyler Rahmatulla hit a three-run homer and the Cards’ starter Kyle Hald pitched six effective innings.
Rahmatulla’s homer capped off a four-run fifth inning. David Washington scored on a single by Steven Ramos. The Cards tacked on one run each in the sixth, seventh and eighth. Washington doubled in a run, Neal Pritchard hit sacrifice fly and Gary Apelian hit an RBI single.
Apelian, Washington and Ramos each had two hits for the Cards.
Hald struck out 11, limiting Bluefield to two run on three hits for his first win of the year. Ryan Sherriff came on in relief, striking out two in to make short work of the seventh and eighth, before giving up three runs on three hits in the ninth. Manuel De La Cruz and Michael Santana worked the ninth, with the save going to Santana.
The Cards will continue their series in Bluefield today with another game against the Orioles July 6 at 7 p.m.
