Bounced checks from closed account result in arrest

July 6th, 2011 6:12 am by Staff Report

Johnson City police arrested a man Tuesday on charges that he passed checks from a closed account.
Brian Scott Huff, 41, 108 Evergreen Road, Jonesborough, was charged with three counts of worthless checks.
Police said Huff was arrested after Joseph Marcotte, 18, Elizabethton, filed a report that he had deposited three checks totaling $1,200 he received from Huff at Eastman Credit Union, 255 Marketplace Blvd., but they were returned because the account had been closed.
Marcotte reportedly told police he had deposited two other checks totaling $1,150 at the Jonesborough branch of Eastman Credit Union. Marcotte said Huff had him withdraw the money, keep $200 and give the rest back to him.
Huff was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $11,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance Wednesday.
