Three join Wellmont Health System

The Wellmont Health System board of directors recently added three new community and physician leaders as members. New board members are David Lester, chief financial officer of the Nicewonder Group; Frank Wood, CEO of Holston Companies, Holston Distributing Co., Warehouse Central, Truck Central, Records Storage and Management Central; and Dr. William Smith, a past president of the medical staff at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Lester, who has worked for the Nicewonder Group since 1981, earned his bachelor’s degree in business/accounting from Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. He has been a member of the board of trustees of Emory & Henry College in Emory, Va., since 2003. Since 2005, he has been chair of the college’s investment committee and a member of the executive committee. He is married to Peggy Lester.
Wood earned bachelor’s degrees in business administration and industrial engineering from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Besides serving as CEO of five companies, he is a member of the board of directors of the Mountain Commerce Bank. He has previously worked in industrial engineering as a control analyst at the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Smith earned his bachelor’s degree from Emory & Henry College and his medical degree from the West Virginia School of Medicine in Morgantown, W.Va. He completed his anesthesiology residency at West Virginia University Medical Center and his fellowship at the West Virginia School of Medicine and Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh. Smith is board-certified in anesthesiology and advanced perioperative transesophageal echocardiography. He is an assistant clinical professor in the department of surgery at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. He is married to Rebecca Smith.
Members rotating off the board are E. Wayne Kirk, a certified valuation analyst with Business Valuations and Consulting in Johnson City, and Dr. David Thompson, an internal medicine physician with Bristol Medical Associates, which is a member of Wellmont Physician Services.
