Carter Co. inmate accused of vandalizing jail cells

David Lynn Blevins

ELIZABETHTON — An inmate in the Carter County Detention Center was accused of vandalizing two of the cells he occupied on Friday through Sunday.

David Lynn Blevins, 23, 114 Church St., was charged with one count of vandalism under $500 and one count of vandalism over $500. He is scheduled to answer the charges in Sessions Court on Oct. 10.

On Friday, Blevins was charged with drawing pictures on a cell door. The drawings were similar to pictures Blevins had just drawn on paper that had been confiscated by Capt. Tom Smith as contraband. Sgt. Stacy McKinney said Blevins acknowledged drawing the picture on the cell door.

On Sunday, Corporal Samantha Beckett said she saw that "WILF" had been etched onto the padded cell door. She said she had checked the cell before placing Blevins in it and there were no marks. She said the cell had been remodeled last week and was in brand new condition.
