Police: Man confessed to taking cellphone

Ricky Sanders

A Jonesborough man was arrested on a theft charge, police said, after he admitted to stealing a cellphone from a co-worker’s car.

On Thursday, Johnson City police arrested Ricky Ray Sanders, 20, 127 Parsons Circle, after a two-day investigation into a theft from a vehicle.

On Tuesday at around 7:36 p.m., police were called to Advanced Call Center Technologies, 3035 Boones Creek Road, after one of its employees discovered that his vehicle’s windows were shattered and his phone was missing.

Police said officers developed Sanders as a suspect based on information provided by the business. Sanders agreed to meet with officers at the police station, police said, during which time he waived his Miranda rights and told them he had stolen the phone for a friend.

Sanders was charged with theft over $500 and taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held on $1,000 bond. His arraignment is scheduled to take place this morning in Sessions Court.
