Press, Cardinals team up for subscriber appreciation event

The Johnson City Press wants to take its subscribers out to the ballgame.

Before Monday's Johnson City Cardinals game against the Kingsport Mets, the Press invites -— in a first-come, first-served manner — its subscribers to receive tickets from a tent outside the stadium. Each subscriber can get up to two of 250 available tickets to the contest. Subscribers and everyone at the game will be able to enter a drawing where they could win two tickets to the Saturday night IRWIN Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

There will also be newspapers thrown into the crowds, some containing golden tickets that will earn its rightful owner a Johnson City Press umbrella as well.

And what’s a baseball game without some noise?

Johnson City Press circulation manager Phil Hensley said all fans will be able to get their hands on some of the 500 available “Let’s Go Cards” thundersticks, which will help in cheering on the home team.

Hensley said events like this from the newspaper will become more common, with other subscriber incentives coming in the way of coupons and other offers.

“We’re offering our subscribers more than we ever have in the past,” Hensley said. “It’s a chance to reward them.”

Mr. Newspaper will also be on hand to take photos, cheer with the fans and throw out the first pitch. The Happy Snaps booth will be on hand with attire from the Cardinals — an affiliate of the 11-time World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals — available for people to show their team spirit. The 7 p.m. contest will also fall on Dollar Monday, presented by Bank of Tennessee, which features tickets, Dr. Enuf, candy, hot dogs, soda, beer, chips and popcorn, all for just a buck.

Joe Adams, director of consumer sales in the circulation department of the Kingsport Times-News, the Johnson City Press’ sister paper, said subscribers are like members with their newspaper subscription, which is something valued and worth rewarding.

“We appreciate our subscribers and want to show them that being a subscriber is important,” he said.

Adams said anyone interested in signing up for a new subscription can do so outside the game and get a chance to take advantage of all there is available when you become a subscriber.
