Daniel Norris’ opportunity to play in the majors suddenly seems to be developing at about 95 mph.
The Toronto Blue Jays promoted Norris to their Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo on Wednesday.
Norris, a 21-year-old left-handed power pitcher from Science Hill, was 9-1 this season between stops at Single-A Dunedin (Florida) and Double-A New Hampshire.
“I’m just feeling very blessed right now,” Norris said via text Wednesday evening. “It’s been am amazing year and I’m looking forward to finishing strong. Every opportunity in front of me I’ve taken and I’ve tried to dominate each one. Nothing changes.”
Norris has 125 strikeouts and 35 walks in 102 innings this season. Opponents are batting .219.
Norris, a three-time Johnson City Press Super 22 Player of the Year (2009-11), was mentioned frequently in potential trades leading up to the July 31 trade deadline.
He said he was happy to still be with Toronto and wants to play in the majors for the team that drafted him. Toronto's pennant race might complicate matters in the short run, but who knows, it could happen as soon as a September call-up.comments powered by Disqus
