Enoch misses cut at British Open

HOYLAKE, England — Rhys Enoch’s run in the Open Championship came to an end on Friday at Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

The former East Tennessee State golf shot 4-over 76 on Friday to card a 5-over 149 (73-76) in the first two rounds and miss the cut by three strokes.

Enoch’s second round included an eagle, a birdie, four bogeys and a triple bogey. He sat at 3-over after three bogeys on the front nine but moved back one with an eagle on No. 11. A triple bogey on No. 12 put him back at 5-over, and from there he made three straight pars, followed by a bogey on No. 16, a birdie on a par-4 No. 17 and a par on his final hole, the par-5 No. 18.

Rory McIlroy, an ETSU signee, leads the tournament taking a four-shot lead over Dustin Johnson after shooting 66 for the second straight day. McIlroy is at 12-under 132.

The cut line for the Open Championship is determined by the lowest 70 scores, including ties, following the first two rounds of the tournament. Seventy-two golfers made the cut.

This is the second consecutive year and fourth time in the last six years ETSU had either a former or current golfer in the Open Championship. ETSU senior Rhys Pugh made his debut last year, while former Buccaneer standout Rhys Davies played in the 2009 and 2010 Open Championships.
