Kpt. alderman resigns after receiving DUI charge

Kingsport Alderman Jantry Shupe resigned from his position Monday, three days after he was charged with driving under the influence.

Jantry Shupe has resigned his position as an alderman for the city of Kingsport.

He submitted a letter of resignation to Mayor Dennis Phillips this afternoon.

In the letter he says: "It is with deep regret and heartfelt sadness that I submit my letter of resignation to the Kingsport Board of Mayor and Aldermen. While I enjoy serving the citizens of Kingsport, it is very important that I take some time to deal with personal matters for me and my family."

Shupe's resignation comes just days after his second arrest for driving under the influence. He was arrested late Friday night by a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper after he made an "abrupt right turn" onto an East Stone Drive ramp.
