Shoplifting call leads to numerous drug charges for Chuckey woman

Kathyrn Reagan

Johnson City police arrested a Chuckey woman last week after she was caught with numerous pills, a white substance believed to be methamphetamine and all the makings of a meth lab in her car.

Kathryn M. Reagan, 53, 960 Fishpond Road, Chuckey, was jailed on five drug charges — two counts of possession of schedule II drugs for resale, one count of possession of schedule III drugs for resale, one count of possession of schedule IV drugs for resale and one count of initiation of methamphetamine manufacturing.

Prior to her arrest, Johnson City police were called to Walmart on West Market Street in reference to a man and woman walking around the store and the man was stealing items.

A lost prevention officer reported she saw the man take lithium batteries, a set of earbuds and a flashlight out of their packages and put the items in his pocket.

When Officer Justin Jenkins approached the man, Johnny F. Forbes, 31, 129 Harper Road, Johnson City, and asked him about the items, Forbes acknowledged having taken the batteries. In addition to that, Jenkins found a box of Sudafed and a pill container with an accompanying receipt from another store in Forbes’ pocket.

When police searched the woman and her purse, they found enough narcotics and the powder substance to warrant distribution charges.

In the search, officers found 82 Lortab, 48 Xanax and 43 oxycodone pills as well as four small baggies that contained a white powdery substance. They also found three cell phones, a cut straw and a mirror, both with a white residue on them.

After Jenkins located the batteries and large number of pills, he called in the special investigation squad to investigate further. Those officers obtained permission to search Reagan’s vehicle, according to a police report. There they found numerous items and material used to produce methamphetamine, including drain cleaner, cold medicine, camping fuel, funnels, filters, spoons with burn marks and residue and digital scales.

Reagan was arrested on the drug charges and Forbes was issued a citation for misdemeanor shoplifting.

Reagan is free on $50,000 bond. Her next court date is July 15.
