East Tennessee State basketball fans had better mark New Year's Eve on their calendars. And not just to celebrate the start of 2015.
The Bucs will play Tennessee again.
ETSU announced Tuesday that it will play in Knoxville on Dec. 31. The rest of the schedule is still pending, the but the school wanted to get the word out early about what will undoubtedly be its biggest non-conference game.
The Vols are coming off a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA tournament and will be coached by Donnie Tyndall, who replaced Cuonzo Martin.
“I’ve known Donnie since his days at Middle Tennessee, and we coached against each other when he was at Morehead State, so I’m glad this worked out for both our teams,” ETSU coach Murry Bartow said. “This is always an exciting game for our fans and I think a high-level game for our players. It’s been a few years since we’ve made the trip to Knoxville, so this will be a game everyone will look forward to playing.”
The Vols have won 12 of the 14 meetings between the two schools. Tennessee won the last meeting, 66-63, during the 2010-11 season.
ETSU won 83-70 in 1989 and 87-79 in 1991.comments powered by Disqus
