KPD, Secret Service seek public aid in tracking suspected counterfeiter

Tyler Shane Monroe

Kingsport police and the U.S. Secret Service are asking for the public’s help in locating a man they suspect was involved in counterfeiting U.S. currency.

On Friday afternoon, the Kingsport Police Department issued a release detailing its investigation into Tyler Shane Monroe, 19, who was indicted in January on a charge of conspiracy to counterfeit United States currency.

According to the release, KPD began an investigation into a counterfeit currency ring in Kingsport. After the investigation was passed on to the Secret Service, eight people were arrested, tried, convicted, and are awaiting sentencing.

The release said Monroe was aware of his indictment and was “actively avoiding” his arrest. Monroe was described as a black man standing 6-feet-1-inches tall and weighing approximately 270 pounds. His last known residence was on Sewanee Street in Kingsport.

Anyone with any information on Monroe or his whereabouts is encouraged to contact the KPD’s Criminal Investigations Division at (423)229-9429 or KPD Central Dispatch at (423)246-9111.
