Man killed in Greeneville police chase after fleeing crash with cruiser

GREENEVILLE — A 74-year-old man was killed in a police chase in Greeneville on Sunday after speeding away from a hit-and-run crash with a police cruiser, the Tennessee Highway Patrol reported.

David M. Fillers, Greeneville, died when he was partially ejected from his SUV as it struck two trees.

The THP said Fillers was involved in a hit-and-run crash with a Greeneville Police Department cruiser and fled. When the officer tried to catch up with Fillers' 1993 Ford Explorer, Fillers sped away south on East McKee Street. Fillers lost control in a curve, and the SUV struck a guardrail on the right side of the road, then left the road before crashing into the trees.

Fillers was not wearing a seat belt.
