A Knoxville police officer was shot twice and a suspect was shot and killed Saturday morning after a disturbance in East Knoxville.
The wounded officer was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center. He was shot once in the arm and once in his vest, said KPD Police Chief David Rausch.
"He had been hit at least twice from the subject," said Rausch. "At this point, we're told he's OK. He's awaiting further evaluation at UT Hospital."
Around 6:48 a.m., KPD received a disturbance call from McConnell Street where a woman had been assaulted by a man, said Rausch.
When officers arrived, the suspect had fled the scene. A witness pointed out to where the suspect had fled, and an officer followed him on foot to a wooded area behind 800 Graves St., said Rausch.
