City spending

City spending

I’ve read the proposed budget cuts and it appears that Legion Street Pool is on the chopping block. Has the city considered what the children who frequent the pool will do this summer? There will be no place for them to swim.
Hundreds of children who cannot afford to go to Wetlands water park, or have private memberships to pools will not have an opportunity to learn to swim, or just enjoy a day at the pool.
I think closing Legion Street Pool is a bad idea. Why doesn’t the City Commission look at other ways to streamline the budget? Does Johnson City really need a city manager who makes more than $130,000 per year? Does Johnson City really need two assistant city managers?
It is easy to cut programs designated for the poor, the young and the elderly, because often they have no voice. It’s harder to cut funding at the top — because it may impact the lifestyle of the “rich and famous,” but that is the decent thing to do.
Wake up Johnson City and look at what is happening to our city. We are no longer the best of the Tri-Cities. Our city is a mess.
