Kingsport man charged with attempted murder

Monty A. Bishop

KINGSPORT — A Kingsport man has been arrested following a fight with family members in which he allegedly pointed a gun at a man's face and crashed his pickup while trying to run people over.

Monty A. Bishop, 21, was apprehended at his home on Saratoga Road shortly after the Saturday evening incident. He's charged with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault. Also taken into custody was his girlfriend, Gaile E. Powell, 19, who is charged with accessory after the fact.

According to a Kingsport Police Department incident report, shortly after 4 p.m. officers responded to a disturbance on Rock Springs Valley Road. Upon arrival, Bishop and Powell had already fled the scene.

A police report lists four victims in the incident, which began as a male resident was working on a vehicle with a friend.
