ELIZABETHTON — A candlelight prayer vigil for two young men, who drowned in separate incidents in Carter County this week, will be conducted Friday night, according to a Facebook page developed for the victims.

The event will begin at 9 p.m. on a soccer field near the ETSU Marshall T. Nave Center, 1000 Jason Witten Way, and Elizabethton High School.

Cody Roberts, 21, drowned apparently accidentally in Watauga Lake over the Memorial Day weekend. His body was found beneath 20 feet of water underneath a dock at 211 Springer Drive, Butler, on Sunday afternoon. His family and friends had reported him missing several hours earlier. Roberts was a 2011 graduate of Happy Valley High School.

The body of 19-year-old Colton Oakes, a former golf standout at Happy Valley, was recovered from a muddy, murky farm pond at 121 Coleman Road on Wednesday morning. The pasture is off Rittertown Road.
