City and county officials will break ground for the new Washington County-Johnson City Animal Shelter off North Roan Street next week.

The ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at the 6.6-acre site for the new shelter, 3411 N. Roan St., next to Dixie Barbecue.

The $2.3 million project will replace the existing shelter off State of Franklin Road near West Market Street.
