PINEY FLATS — Warrants were served Friday afternoon on a hospitalized Elizabethton man accused of attempting to run over a sheriff's deputy but missing, then crashing his girlfriend's car into a Piney Flats business and igniting a fire.

Patrick Fries, 42, of Keenburg Road, Elizabethton, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of felony vandalism and driving under the influence.

According to Sullivan County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart, the incident began just before 9 p.m. Thursday.

Sheriff's deputies were called to a fight outside of Century Court in Piney Flats, where employees of Diversified Power International had been approached by a woman seeking help. According to Earhart, the victim and her boyfriend, Fries, had previously been arguing inside her Honda Accord.

Our partners at the Kingsport Times-News have more on the crash and Fries' arrest.
