Update: UT report shows fraternity paddled students, poured hot sauce on students' genitalia

KNOXVILLE — Students hoping to become members of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity were yelled at for failing to answer questions, paddled and had hot sauce poured on their genitalia.

But those aspiring members, it turns out, had already been denied by the fraternity’s national headquarters and were subjected to hazing with no hope of becoming Alpha Phi Alpha brothers.

The bizarre circumstances that led the University of Tennessee to shut down its chapter of the historically black fraternity last month were detailed in an 11 page report from the Office of Judicial Affairs, which the school released Thursday afternoon to the News Sentinel as part of a public records request. Parts of the report are redacted.
