A 25-year-old Johnson City man was killed Thursday afternoon when his motorcycle slammed into a city truck on East Watauga Avenue.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said Chance Cicora was riding at "very high speed" on East Watauga about 1:30 p.m. when a city truck was making a left onto East Watauga from New Street.
Cicora's motorcycle struck the right front of the city truck driven by Elmer Rush, 63, also of Johnson City. Cicora was thrown off the bike and died at the scene.
The motorcycle was torn into pieces by the impact, and debris from the crash was strewn throughout the street and adjacent yards in the area.
The truck driver received minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital to be checked out, THP Sgt. Diane Mays said.
A section of East Watauga was closed for several hours after the wreck as a team of THP investigators inspected the crash scene.
No charges were placed.

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a city truck at the intersection of East Watauga Avenue and New Street in Johnson City this afternoon.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol was working the crash, which was reported around 1:30 p.m.
The city truck's driver received minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital to be checked out, THP Sgt. Diane Mays said.
Mays also said the THP's Critical Incident Response Team had been called into take measurements and reconstruct the accident. She did not have details about how the crash occurred.
"Everything right now is preliminary," Mays said.
