UT kicks another fraternity off campus

KNOXVILLE — Alpha Phi Alpha, a historically black fraternity, has been kicked off the University of Tennessee campus after members admitted to school officials they’d been hazed.

A concerned parent called the university, prompting an investigation. Students admitted to school officials they had been under physical and mental distress, according to university documents.

Neither a full university report nor a UT police report was available Wednesday.

It’s unclear exactly when the alleged hazing took place or when the punishment was handed down, although it appeared to be sometime during the spring semester, according to UT records released to the News Sentinel in response to a public records request for all fraternity violations.

More: Alpha Phi Alpha is the fourth fraternity in five semesters to close its UT chapter in the wake of disciplinary problems.
