Jonesborough's Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts will hold a final special registration for summer camps on Saturday, June 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McKinney Center. Parents and students can access the complete summer schedule and registration forms at www.jonesboroughtn.org.
The summer will begin with Art Trek, June 9 through 13 from 9 a.m. to noon, for grades K-9. Instructors Larke Foster and Sharon Squibb will lead students around the globe. Students will stamp their passports and explore the colorful diversity of the world through art projects from many cultures. Classes will incorporate a broad range of techniques and media, including painting, printmaking, sculpture and drawing while discovering each culture's rich visual traditions. Students will create works from North and South America, Asia, Africa and Australia. Students will also learn about world customs and celebrations, making the week a wonderful experience for both beginning and experienced young artists. Cost for the class, including supplies, is $150.
Jonesborough Story Adventures, taught by director Doug Reiser, writer Jules Corriere and videographer Anthony Frazier, will be held June 16 through 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and is geared toward grades 5 - 9, but may be suitable for other ages. This week long adventure will provide opportunities to explore the realm of acting for film and television. Students will develop their own storylines, songs, poetry and create a short 20 minute film to be premiered at the McKinney Center. Cost is $225.
Artist Bill Bledsoe will instruct, The Power of Sculpture, June 23 through 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. This course has been developed to awaken students' creativity by learning to build, mold, and construct three dimensional sculptures using everyday materials such as paper, wire, wood, plaster and clay. Students will be inspired by viewing master pieces from various sculptors and learn their same techniques. The class is geared toward grades 10 -- adult. Cost for the class, including supplies, is $150.
Mosaic Masterpiece will be held, June 23 through 27 from 1 to 4 p.m., instructed by Beverly Thomas Jenkins. In this class students will step into the wonderful world of mosaics and learn all the basics and various techniques. By the end of the week, students will have designed, composed and constructed their own masterpiece. This class is geared toward grades 10 -- adults. Cost is $150.comments powered by Disqus
