FBI takes lead in possible abduction of Knoxville housekeeper

Knoxville police say 53-year-old Dennis Richard Smith, left, may have taken 51-year-old Tamra Beam, right, his ex-wife.

KNOXVILLE — The FBI is now leading the investigation into the possible abduction of a woman who disappeared from the West Hills house where she worked as a housekeeper, according to a news release Thursday from the Knoxville Police Department.

The investigation began Wednesday when Knoxville police received a possible burglary and crime against a person call about 1:50 p.m.

The housekeeper, Tamra Beam, 51, may have been taken by her ex-husband, Dennis Richard Smith, 53, according to police. It’s possible she’s in danger, police said.

According to the homeowner, she discovered that someone had forced open the rear glass door of the house at 7205 Sheffield Drive in West Hills.
