Police Blotter: Dollar General disarray, a case of customer disservice, and more

Literally blowing up the bathroom. Police responded to a local Waffle House after an employee said she answered the phone and a man said there was a bomb inside the store's bathroom. Police said the employee told them she then hung up the phone, but the man called back and repeated himself. The manager then evacuated the store and waited for the police to arrive. After their arrival, police said they found no bombs in the bathroom.

I'm not lovin' it. A man called police after he realized his wallet had been stolen when he stopped to eat at McDonald's. The man told police he accidentally left his wallet on the counter after paying for his food. When police reviewed the security footage, they said they saw an employee cover the wallet with a washcloth and slide it off the counter before putting it in her pocket. When they talked to the employee, police said she gave them the cash and said she had hidden the wallet in the women's restroom.

Hands tied, then cuffed. Police were called to the local Belk store after loss prevention personnel said they saw a man stuff two items into a shopping bag and then try to leave the store without paying for them. Those items? Two neckties, valued at a combined $105.

Short attention span. A man told police that his next-door neighbor was drunk and kept coming over to his house harassing him and his guests. Police said they then went to the neighbor's house and told him not to go next door. As the police were leaving, however, they said they watched the neighbor walk onto the man's yard and start yelling at him. The man was then arrested for public intoxication and criminal trespass.

Backyard blackout. One afternoon, a man decided to lie down in a backyard to get some rest. According to police, however, it wasn't his yard. Police said a woman called them about a man who was lying down in her backyard and refused to leave. When they found the man, police said he had a nearly empty bottle of liquor on his person and appeared to be drunk. He was arrested for public intoxication, but not before he cursed at the woman for calling police.

A dog day afternoon. Police responded to Wal-Mart after store personnel said they caught a man trying to shoplift items. Police said they learned the man was trying to steal $24 worth of "dog hygiene" supplies.

General disarray at Dollar General:

  • A Dollar General employee called police after she said she caught a woman trying to steal a curling iron from the store by hiding it under her clothes. Police said the employee told them that, when she caught up with the woman in the parking lot, she admitted to taking the iron, but planned on selling it to pay her light bill.

  • • Throughout that same day, Dollar General employees called police to report a trespasser, but, after two visits to the store, police were unable to find him. One officer did spot the man walking on a city street and told him that he was on the store's trespass list. On the third visit to the store, police said they spotted the man in the checkout line, adding that the employees indicated that was the same man who was trespassing earlier. Upon his arrest, police said they found a baggie with about 6 grams of marijuana in his pocket. He was charged with aggravated criminal trespass and simple possession.
