Thank our teachers for giving so much to educate our children

It is with great pleasure that I share with our community the value our Johnson City Schools’ educators contribute to the success of our school district. Teaching is a profession like no other. Many careers require dedication, hard work, a skill set, charisma and intelligence.
Teaching, however, also requires more unique qualities — the ability to strike the delicate balance between discipline and freedom and to encourage individuals while considering what is best for the group, but most of all, it requires a genuine desire and willingness to care for others. It goes without saying that knowledge and learning are vital to enable us to live our lives.
The decision to teach often comes with few accolades and around-the-clock hours. Teacher Appreciation Week is the perfect time to personally thank our students’ teachers for their sacrifices and support for children throughout the year. While appreciation alone will not reduce the challenges teachers face, it will let them know their efforts are not going unnoticed.
One great teacher can make all the difference. Teachers may not always see the impact of their work on students and families, but the testimonies received from parents, teachers and students themselves are proof that good teaching is a powerful thing.
Teachers play a key role in student success, and sometimes a simple “thanks” is all a teacher needs to feel valued. Take the time to celebrate your child’s teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, which begins today.
