Bicyclist injured after striking vehicle at ETSU

A bicyclist riding on the East Tennessee State University campus Friday morning was seriously injured when he struck the back of a vehicle.

According to a police report, Jingwen Wu, 25, 278 Treasure Lane, was riding his bike on Gilbreath Drive shortly after 9 a.m. when he ran into the rear of a Toyota Prius being driven by Diane Hayes, of Knoxville.

Hayes was stopped at a stop sign when Wu struck the back of her vehicle, police said.

Wu reportedly had major damage to his face from the impact of hitting the vehicle. He suffered incapacitating injuries and was transported to an area hospital, the report said. A university spokesman said Wu was released from the hospital that afternoon.

The Prius’ rear window was shattered in the collision and the hatchback portion of the car was cracked, police reported.

Charges are pending against Wu.
