Kennesaw finishes off sweep of Bucs in dramatic fashion

KENNESAW, Ga. — After using a five-run ninth inning to grab the lead, the East Tennessee State baseball team gave it back in the bottom of the inning.

Kennesaw State’s Chris McGowan hit a two-run, two-out home run in the ninth off of Clinton Freeman, giving the Owls a 9-8 victory over the Bucs and a three-game sweep in an Atlantic Sun Conference series.

The Bucs got home runs from Tyler Roach and Kevin Phillips, who stretched his hitting streak to 12 games. Chris Cook was one of six Bucs to get two hits and he increased his hitting streak to 11 games.

ETSU had 13 hits. Also getting two were Jeremy Taylor, Chris Riopedre, Roach, Phillips and Zach Mize, who was making his first start since March 30.

McGowan’s blast gave Freeman his first loss out of the Bullpen since April 14, 2012. Freeman (1-4) was charged with seven runs (six earned) on six hits in 3 2/3 innings.

McGowan went 3 for 5 to lead a 14-hit Kennesaw State attack.
