A woman from Southwest Virginia died from injuries suffered in a crash on Interstate 26 early Saturday morning.
According to a press release from the Johnson City Police Department, 36-year-old Sherri Lee Polk, P.O. Box 1153, Chilhowie, Va., died after the 2005 Pontiac Sunfire she was a passenger in ran off the roadway into the center median near mile marker 11.2. The car struck metal cables and posts as it turned sideways and hit the leading end of a guardrail on the passenger’s side door at around 5 a.m.
The vehicle, driven by 18-year-old Nathan G. Fullen, 119 Fullen Lane, Chilhowie, was transported to Johnson City Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
Polk’s body was taken to East Tennessee State University’s James H. Quillen College of Medicine for an autopsy.
Charges are pending in the investigation, which is being conducted by the JCPD’s Traffic Homicide Team.comments powered by Disqus
