The victim of a fatal crash between a pick-up and cement truck Monday afternoon has been identified as a Sullivan County man.
Jerry L. Dugger, 49, 160 Carr Hollow Road, Bluff City, died when a cement truck crashed into his pickup after Dugger pulled his 2009 Nissan Frontier out in front of it, according to a press release issued by Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal.
It happened on Highway75 at the intersection of Sam Jenkins Road at 4:49 p.m. According to Graybeal, Dugger turned left off of Sam Jenkins Road onto Highway 75 into the path of a cement truck headed south on the two-lane highway. The cement truck hit the driver's door of the Nissan, Graybeal said.
The driver of the cement truck, Gerald Helbert, 44, of Blountville, was not injured.
A passenger in Dugger's truck, Dalton Whitson, 20, also of 160 Carr Hollow Road, received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center by ambulance.
The crash was still under investigation, but no charges were pending, Graybeal said.comments powered by Disqus
