ERWIN — A trial date has been set for the three adults who were allegedly present at a recorded fight between two teenage girls, the video of which police said was previously posted on the Facebook page of one of the minors.
Amanda Rana Shelton, 1782 Tenn. Highway 352, Flag Pond, David Grant Shelton, 6194 Highway 212, Marshall, N.C., and Jarid Engle Briggs, 118 Briggs Lane, Flag Pond, appeared in Unicoi County General Sessions Court on Thursday, where a May 15 trial date in Sessions Court was set. Each is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and criminal trespassing.
On March 20, officials with the Unicoi County Sheriff's Department arrested Amanda Shelton, two days after police say a video of two 13-year-old girls fighting was brought to their attention. Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley previously said one of the girls involved in the fight posted the video to her Facebook account.
Hensley said Amanda Shelton is the mother of one of the girls involved and was present when the fight took place at the old Flag Pond School. Officials said Amanda Shelton failed to intervene in the altercation and directed her daughter on what to do during the fight.
David Shelton was arrested on March 21. Hensley said police officials determined that he was also present when the fight took place and "egged on" the fight between the girls rather than intervening.
Briggs was arrested on March 25. UCSD Chief Investigator Ronnie Adkins said previously that officials received statements that Briggs witnessed the fight and may have filmed it with the phone of one of the girls involved.
The female juveniles allegedly involved in the fight have already appeared in Unicoi County Juvenile Court.comments powered by Disqus
